About Us

Mark and Steffanie were married in the mid eighties, at the time Mark was involved in his family business. In the late eighties, Mark and Steffanie purchased that family business, a cloth, home delivery diaper service in the Portland, Oregon.

Mark ran the Operations side of the business and Steffanie was in charge of the Sales and Marketing. They grew the company and expanded into commercial laundry, providing linen services to Hospitals and Hotels. This business grew from 25 employees to over 50 employees.

During this time they started a family and had two children, which caused their priorities to change. Running a business that operated seven days a week with great demand on their time was not the focus anymore. In 1998, they sold the business and took some time off.

Later in 1998, Mark decided to fulfill his dream of diving into the real estate market by restoring homes. The Andersons sold these homes at first and then began to grow a real estate portfolio of their own. Over the course of a few years, Mark acquired many skills needed for home renovation, such asĀ  how to add foundations under existing homes, repair dry-rot, plumbing, electrical, drywall, painting, siding, roofing, and many other things.. Mark grew this company with Stefanie’s’ help keeping track of the accounting side. The business grew to 80 rental units. At that time, they had four full-time employees. They purchased property with buildable land, zoned for Condos.

In 2007, they built a subdivision of Condominiums and finished them, right when the housing market crashed. They were forced to liquidate the rental properties and get out of the real estate/construction business.

In 2008, faced with the need to refocus, they decided to use their experience of growing businesses, and learning how to succeed throughout the years to help other small businesses. Even in a down economy Business Cents has grown consistently and is doing well. This company is different from most other bookkeeping and accounting firms, because experience in running different types of businesses and going through ups and downs that entrepreneurs face.
